The Siagne Valley

Fish in one of the jewels of our region, with crystal-clear emerald-green waters, in a wild and preserved setting!

The Siagne is Class 1 from its source to the Tanneron bridge. The alternating shallows and deep pools make this an exceptional water course in which to seek large trout.

The Siagne can be easily accessed at the Siagne and Veyans bridges: it is in this sectors that inter-departmental exploration fishing trails have been created. These trails are perfect for coming to discover fishing on the Siagne or to learn a new technique.

Downstream from the Tanneron bridge, perch, pike, roach, carp, tench, etc. populate the deep areas, whereas the shallows are the spots of choice to track down the large chub that are present in high numbers.

A water course that’s worth a look: you won’t be disappointed in the landscapes!

The Loup Valley

Wild Mediterranean trout along almost 50 km, from the sources to the coast!

On the upper part, the fishing is bucolic in a preserved setting in the mid-mountains: up to the Loup Bridge, clear resurgence water runs between the rocks, thus forming magnificent holes populated by wild Brown trout.
The lower part of the Loup, class 2 from Le Lauron, allows everyone to fish: this sector still houses a large Brown trout population. It is also an ideal spot to teach children the joys of fishing; the populations of minnows, souffia, chub and barbel allow them to make catch after catch with a simple rod, not giving the novices the time to get bored.

The Cagne Valley

Perfect for getting close to nature without getting too far away from the coast

The Cagne runs through a very wild backdrop from its source in Coursegoules up to the Salles Bridge, upstream of Cagnes-sur-Mer. This is the perfect spot to disconnect (literally and figuratively!) and to recharge your batteries beside the water’s edge with an evening drink, at the foot of the Baou de St Jeannet, and this just a few kilometres from the coast. Despite the numerous waterfalls and the few short canyons, the river is fairly easy to get to, thanks to the numerous little paths that border it along almost all its length. All techniques are feasible when fishing for trout, which are widely present in the Cagne. Downstream of the former Gaude hydroelectric plant, the water course is Class 2 and can be fished all year round!

The Esteron Valley

The longest “wild river” in France

PFishing enthusiasts are in an exceptional and preserved site beside the Esteron. The water course is classified as a “Wild River”, from its source to La Clave!

This river, little affected by human activity, is home to a particular genetic strain of magnificent Brown trout, treasures of our local natural heritage.
With regard to fishing, all techniques are likely to be practiced along this sumptuous river, which is a succession of large deep pools and shallows overs its flattest parts, interspersed with large lakes and waterfalls in the canyon sectors.

The Cians Valley

Fishing in the “red”, a unique experience in France!

Like their neighbour Daluis, “The Colorado of Nice”, the Cians Gorges are carved into the red schist and are one of the department’s major tourist attractions.
The river and its tributary canyons are particularly well populated with Brown trout.
At the beginning of the season, give preference to wax moth larvae, which are a natural bait loved by trout. Summer is conducive to fly fishing.
Fishing in these breath-taking landscapes still requires precautions, as the water level can rise quickly in the event of a storm.

The Tinée valley

A varied playground: the wide, accessible river, secret valleys and high-altitude lakes

The Tinée enjoys an excellent reputation, not just for the beauty its wild catchment basin landscapes, but also for its halieutic riches: the river houses a good density of Brown trout, with spots to discover using flies, natural bait or spinners. When we talk about the Tinée, we mustn’t forget its many tributaries, densely populated with Brown trout, but also its high-altitude lakes that reward the fishing/hiking enthusiast.

The Var Valley

The long river linking the Mercantour and the Mediterranean

From the sources at the foot of La Cayolle to its Mediterranean delta in Nice, the river showcases a variety of landscapes.
In terms of fishing, the lake located at the sources of the Var and bordered by larch trees, is particularly suited to a family activity, 1800 m above sea level beside the mythical Grandes Alpes route.
Further down, in the mid-Var, the river offers long shallows, interspersed by deep pools: while there aren’t many refuge areas, they are home to very large fish.
