« Vita Nuova nouveaux enjeux de l’art en Italie 1960-1975 »

Cultural, Exhibition in Nice
  • This exhibition aims to reveal the incredible vivacity of artistic creation in Italy between 1960 and 1975, an artistic situation that is little known in France, with the exception of a few artists.

  • Italy experienced a particularly fertile and exceptional period from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s, which was inextricably linked to the wealth of cinema and literature of those years.

Italy experienced a particularly fertile and exceptional period from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s, which was inextricably linked to the wealth of cinema and literature of those years.
However, since the exhibition held at the Musée national d'art moderne-Centre Pompidou (Paris) in 1981: « Identité italienne. L’art en Italie depuis 1959 » ("Italian Identity. Art in Italy since 1959"), curated by Germano Celant (1940-2020), there has not been an exhibition in France that offered a panorama of this art scene.
Vita Nuova (Nouveaux enjeux de l’art en Italie 1960-1975 - New Stakes in Italian Art 1960-1975) proposes to fill this historical gap and to show in a different way these fifteen years of creation from 1960, which corresponds to the first exhibitions of a new generation of artists (born between the 1920s and 1940s) active in Rome, Milan, Turin and Genoa, to 1975, the year marked by the tragic death of the writer, poet and film director Pier Paolo Pasolini, whose birth is being celebrated in 2022.
