This station was inaugurated on 30 October 1928 in the presence of the French Minister of Economy André Tardieu and the Italian Minister of National Economy Giurati. It was then an Italian station.

On 25 June 1930, electric traction made its appearance in Tende station when the electrification of the section from Cuneo to Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende was put into service with a three-phase current of 3,600 volts - 16.66 Hz.

The destruction carried out on the line in April 1945 by German troops during their withdrawal to the Italian territories in the north led to the closure of the station.

On 16 September 1947, the station became French following the incorporation of the town of Tende into France. At the same time, connections between Tende and Italy were again possible, but limited to goods traffic. It was not until the line was fully reopened on 30 September 1979 that the station was reopened with its inauguration on 6 October 1979.
