Haydn, Mozart, Schubert
Formed in 2003, THE MODIGLIANI QUARTET has established itself as one of the most sought-after quartets of our time, a regular guest of major international series and prestigious venues around the world. It performs every year in the United States and Asia, and on numerous European tours in venues such as the Wigmore Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. After relaunching the Rencontres Musicales d'Evian in 2014, and having been its artistic director for 8 years, the Modigliani Quartet has been entrusted with the artistic direction of the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in 2020.
Every year, the quartet invites the greatest quartets and chamber music ensembles to the "Vibre!" festival. The transmission of knowledge to the younger generations - a mission at the heart of their activity - finds an ideal framework here during masterclasses and workshops.
In 2011, he created the Saint-Paul de Vence festival as well as the Arcachon chamber music festival. The Modigliani Quartet continues its rich collaboration with the Mirare label. Its fifteen recordings testify to its vast repertoire (Schubert, Mozart, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Bartók-Bartok, etc.) and have won numerous awards in France and abroad (Chocs de Classica, diapason d'or, etc.). The British reference magazine "The Strad" even devoted its cover to the quartet on the occasion of the release of its latest album.
Only one year after their formation, the Modiglianis won three First Prizes at the International Competitions of Eindhoven (2004), Vittorio Rimbotti of Florence (2005) and the prestigious Young Concert Artists Auditions of New York (2006). After having been taught by the Ysaÿe Quartet and having attended master classes with Walter Levin and Gyorgy Kurtag-György Kurtág, the Modigliani Quartet was invited to work with the Artemis Quartet at the Berlin Universitat der Künste Berlin.
The quartet is particularly fond of chamber music encounters, from which faithful friendships have been born, such as with Sabine Meyer, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Beatrice Rana, Michel Dalberto, Fazil-Fazıl Say, Augustin Dumay, Amihai Grosz, Gary Hoffman, Paul Meyer, Michel Portal, or Daniel Müller-Schott...
Thanks to the support of generous patrons, the Modigliani Quartet has the privilege of playing four magnificent Italian instruments.
- Amaury Coeytaux plays a Guadagnini violin from 1773
- Loïc Rio plays a Guadagnini violin from 1780
- Laurent Marfaing plays a viola by Mariani from 1660
- François Kieffer plays a cello by Matteo Goffriller "ex-Warburg" from 1706
