Les Crottés

Historic site and monument, Military Patrimony, 19th C in Breil-sur-Roya

  • Access via the Crottés trail which overlooks the roofs of the village.

  • These small vaulted shelters, typical of the region, are after the Sardinian restoration, when the Republic of Genoa is attached to the Kingdom of Savoy-Sardinia. No longer threatening his southern flank, the sovereign abandoned the castle of Ar Casté which then served as a stone quarry for the people of the country. Some build these Crottés into shelters in which they store clays during the night on which they dry figs and plums.
