BELMONDO QUINTET

Cultural, Entertainment/recreation, Concert in Mougins
  • It is a pleasure to introduce you the new programming.
Dance and puppet theatre will obviously be very present, but also theatre, music, circus and humour.

  • Founded in the late 1980s, the Belmondo Quintet is based on the complicit pair formed since childhood by Lionel and Stéphane Belmondo. Founded in the late 1980s, the Belmondo Quintet is based on the complicit pair formed since childhood by Lionel and Stéphane Belmondo. From its first appearances, the band marked the jazz landscape with an intense and spiritual music that updated the concepts of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans or Wayne Shorter. With their father Yvan, saxophonist, they record, in sextet, the album Mediterranean Sound in memory of their childhood between Toulon and Hyères and their first musical friendships (Michel Petrucciani, Thomas Bramerie). Brotherhood is the fifth album of the quintet. Lionel Belmondo, saxophonist and flamboyant composer, reconciles the Coltranian spirit with French liturgical traditions. We find the bright Éric Legnini, pianist of an absolute grace with sharp groove. The bewitching dance of Tony Rabeson’s chopsticks and brooms. The curly bass lines until Sylvain Romano’s obsession. And of course Stéphane Belmondo, one of the most esteemed trumpeters on this side of the Atlantic. Family and musical brotherhood, this opus brings the memory of travels, conversations, fights and reunions, euphoria and failures, anecdotes and drunkenness, from concerts in Marseille bars to major festivals, through the rue des Lombards, the artery of Parisian jazz familiar to the Belmondo brothers. A melodious jazz, in line with the great albums Blue Note.

The opinion of the Artistic Director
A quintet with the look of «All stars» that jazz lovers will not miss. However, the music of Belmondo is not reserved for purists. It is completely accessible to those who love inventive music and who carry.
