25th trail of cribs in Lucéram

3 December 2022 - 8 January 2023

Experience Lucéram’s 25th Trail of Cribs with more than 450 traditional Christmas cribs crafted by the village locals and displayed along a trail!

FOLLOW THE MARKED TRAIL TO DISCOVER OVER 450 CHRISTMAS CRIBS

Every year for 25 years, the inhabitants of Lucéram, a village located at an altitude of 664 metres, not far from Nice, have been displaying over 450 cribs all over the village, both outdoors: under porches, communal wash houses, outside windows, in window displays, at the castle’s tower in a pile of wood, on a rill… and indoors: in cellars, in shops, in the bread oven, at the Chapelle St Pierre, at the Musée de la Crèche (Museum of Cribs), on the square, in the church, at the Musée des Vieux Outils (Museum of Ancient Tools), at the Moulin à Huile du Val del Prat (Val del Prat oil mill), at the Peira Cava ski station, at the Col de Turini.

What makes this event unique? Share a one-of-a-kind magical moment with your family and friends during the Christmas holidays…

From the tiniest crib, which fits in half a hazelnut shell, to the largest one, which is 10 metres long, from the most original to the most unusual: in a matchbox, in a clog, in cougourdon squashes, made of wrought iron, knitted… Every crib will delight you along the way!

You can pick up the village map at the “welcome chalet” at the village entrance and follow the marked trail leading you to every crib!

FOCUS ON THE SANTONS AND THE MUSÉE DE LA CRÈCHE (MUSEUM OF CRIBS)

During your tour, you will notice how specific the santons of Lucéram are: traditionally, the “Little Saints” are made of clay or terracotta, and are then painted. Here on the other hand, you can find them with clothing, made of wood, fabric, wrought iron, salt dough, chalk, wax, made with clothes pegs, knitted… and the most original of all: made of chocolate and champagne corks!

They come in all sizes, from the smallest one, called “Puce”, to santons 60 cm high, and even life-sized ones.

To top it off, don’t forget to visit the Musée de la Crèche (Museum of Cribs) located in Place Adrien Barralis: From the simplest to the most sophisticated, over 150 invaluable works are displayed. Amongst others, you will be able to contemplate cribs from around the world, a breathtaking and highly moving Neapolitan crib, tiny cribs, including those fitting in half a hazelnut shell and half a nut shell, the “cougourdon squash” wall, contemporary cribs, traditional Provençal cribs, santons in all sizes and materials… The museum is open every day during the Trail of Cribs. Outside this period, check with the Maison de Pays.
